| 2008 /2009 Achievements |
It's been a tremendous year for all Shakiru Matti Squash Academy (SMSA)
players this season at the club provincial and national championship levels.
SMSA players from Fitness Unlimited club in Richmond, BC won the 2008-09
British Columbia Provincial Junior Championship Club Challenge. This
prestigious trophy is awarded to the club that accummulates the most points
at the BC Junior Provincial Championships. Remington Hall is currently
ranked #1 in the BC Provincial for both U-17 and U-19 players. For a
16-year-old this is quite a feat.
All SMSA players who attended also displayed outstanding performance
Canadian Junior National Championship. Of special note was Remington Hall's
3rd-place finish in the U-17 category.
Stephen and Christopher Stinson achieved both academically and on the squash
Court. Cornell University, one of the top-ranked U.S Ivy League schools,
awarded both brothers Squash athletic scholarships to study Engineering.
Stephen ended the season with a No.4 U-19 BC ranking and Chris finished in
9th spot. Chris fought additional adversity this season in the form of a
major illness. Good work and congratulations Stephen and Christopher.
In addition to our juniors, the amazing Alicia Heneine won the Canadian
National over-40. The MENS DIV.1 TEAM from FITNESS UNLIMITED WON THE
REGULAR SEASON AND FINISHED 2ND in THE PLAYOFFs IN THE VANCOUVER
SQUASH LEAGUE. CONGRATULATIONS TO MARK O'NEILL,JEFF EVANS,REMINGTON
HALL,CAMBIZ ONDI,STEPHEN AND CHRIS STINSON.
We are looking forward to building on these remarkable achievements next
season. Congratulations to all of players who have contributed to our
success.
